This programme is designed to provide participants with a broad knowledge of psychology and the factors that caused it to evolve. A wide range of teaching methodologies are utilised including classroom learning, case studies, role play, field observations and home study. The course comprises four modules, two of which are FETAC accredited and it is taught over two semesters.
In the first semester, students study Applied Psychology and Child Development. Applied psychology allows students gain an insight into major psychological perspectives and theory and teaches prospective students to apply psychological theory to work situations. Child development provides students with an introduction to the theory and practice of child development from 0 - 6 years, aiming to promote good practice, equality of opportunity and respect for diversity in lifestyles, religion and culture in early years care.The second semester builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in semester 1 with students studying cognitive psychology and social psychology. Cognitive psychology provides students with an overview of memory and language processes, giving them an insight into memory and health and teaches them to apply cognitive theory to practical situations. Social psychology provides an overview of social behaviour, social influence and social interaction.
Assessment
Participants are required to complete two assignments per module (these involve observations on the Child Development module) and are also required to undertake a final written examination in each of the four course modules. Two examination sessions are held each year.
Award
Upon successful completion of this programme graduates will be awarded with the Griffith College Diploma in Psychology. Successful graduates will also be awarded with FETAC Level 5 Records of Achievements in Child Development and Applied Psychology.Certificate in Child Development (FETAC Level 5 Component)

The Child Development module is ideal for those working in childcare or early education and who wish to gain an understanding and appreciation of the psychological development of children.
The Cognitive Psychology module provides an insight into the workings of the mind and is ideal for those working in education or remedial education, those working in the healthcare field or areas where high quality decision-making is important.
The Social Psychology module explores the individual as a social entity. It is of relevance for those working in the fields of management, marketing, politics, organisations or any area where interpersonal skills and understanding are important.
The programme is aimed at the individual who wishes to gain a foundation knowledge of core psychological theories, for professional or personal purposes
